I am Marly Castillero Devis, an Indigenous Guna from the Guna Yala comarca, on the island of Ustupu, Panama. I am a lawyer, I am deeply committed to the defense of justice and the rights of my community. I have a degree in Law and Political Science, and have a Master’s Degree in Higher Education, I am currently specializing in the course of Free, Prior and Informed Consent.
My professional career has been forged in various sectors, both public and private, which has allowed me to develop a comprehensive vision that integrates my cultural roots with the contemporary environment. In my role as a capacity building assistant, I focus on empowering communities through training and capacity building. This experience allows me to navigate and enriches my perspective and work strategies.
As an Indigenous Guna woman, my mission is to advocate for the recognition and strengthening of the collective rights of Indigenous Peoples, promoting their active participation in decision-making spaces at the local, national and international levels. Working in collaboration with the communities, I work to strengthen our cultural practices and our right to self-determination, thus guaranteeing a sustainable and just future for generations to come.
